in defense of their mutually pasty legs, colorado had never been known as a sunny place. especially not in the long winter that was just finally behind them, but still, he took a chance on wearing shorts and she was calling attention to it! his feelings were hurt! “it was implied.” saul sniffed, putting on a show of being offended, though it quickly broke for a light chuckle he couldn’t suppress. “we’ll have to go to a tanning salon together, then. lest anyone will get blinded by our white ass legs.” he joked, bumping his shoulder into rachel's. “hey, any chance to get out of the office is out on the town to me.” the week’s events had already disrupted his work. normally, he saved his fun for the evenings after work and the weekends when his law firm was closed for business (then ended up taking calls on his work cell phone anyway). any other weekday afternoon, he’d be at his desk or in a client meeting. today, he was wearing shorts in public and accompanying a beautiful woman to a charity baseball game—though he lived to work, his current situation was preferable. “yeah, she’s a sweetheart! how did you guys meet?” he was previously unaware that rachel and phoebe knew each other, though it made sense. they should’ve been in a competition to see who was the nicest person in providence peak… and then both win in a tie.
saul scoffed at the glasses comment. “hah—i do have glasses. well, contacts, but i have to use reading glasses at work sometimes.” though he believed aging was a privilege, it had its pitfalls, like weakening eyesight. “just you wait! soon you’ll need to hold your phone two inches away from your face in order to read an article, too.” that was the worst part: it snuck up on you. once he had been a young man, then suddenly, the man looking back at him in the mirror had gray hair and wrinkles around his eyes. he tried to remember that his father never made it past forty-three, so he should consider his reflection as an honor. it had been a long, long road, a messy road, but he made it to fifty-two. that was something to be proud of (most of the time). he laughed at the idea of the announcer calling his name. if anyone in the stands knew him and heard saul weissberg come over the speakers, they’d probably fall over in shock. “no, he’s under his own name, but they might mention i put him up. i guess he’s pretty good, some ncaa division one superstar or some shit, i don’t know.” truthfully, he just called up the university of denver and asked them to send a warm body down. he wasn’t knowledgeable enough about the game to care who came. “number three.” saul held up three fingers for emphasis. “thalia. the rest live back in new york city, so does my son.” there, a bit more saul lore for her. “she no doubt thinks i'm doing this to be petty, but i am a man of conviction… most of the time. i couldn’t back out and leave them uneven for the teams, and well, i live here, too, y’know. i have every right to be part of the community as she does.”
somehow, her assumption that he was a baseball fan made sense to him. maybe it was his face or something. “nope. the weissberg men have always been much more focused on studying than sports. they all thought it was a waste of time… though we’ve always revered sandy koufax and hank greenberg as heroes to our people.” two legendary players that refused to play on high holidays, saul had been forced to appreciate them as a child, though he was pretty sure both players retired before saul and his twin brother were even born. “good, then i'm relying on you from here on out, sunshine. what inning are we on? i feel like we’ve been here for hours and i’m pretty sure the game started like forty-five minutes ago.” that was a reason why he had never been a fan of baseball—or football, for that matter—it seemed like an all day affair. “oh, shit, you do?” saul looked back at her, brows rising in surprise. “like on a rec team?” had she told him this before? did he forget? another pitfall of aging: his short-term memory wasn’t worth a damn anymore.

Rachel smiled back at him as he looked towards her, processing what she said for a moment. She couldn't help but crack up as it finally showed on his face that he'd heard what she said. "I never said that!" Rachel's tone a bit defensive as she straightened up a bit. "To be fair, I'm quite pale as well here! It'd be pretty hypocritical to call anyone out for looking pasty." She shared honestly, but to be fair it was only the start of spring so really who was going to be looking tan unless they'd just come back from a vacation. Looking at his hand on his shoulder before back at him, she snorted a bit at the sentiment in his words. "I definitely wouldn't call charity baseball games out on the town, but I guess I shouldn't argue too much since I do enjoy the company." Rachel shared with a grin before also looking back towards the field to try to look to see if she could identify anyone. Was this how people saw her in the stands when she was playing softball? "Oh! Okay very cool! I know Phoebe a bit." Rachel couldn't say she knew the woman too well at all, but enough to recognize the name and she knew that their conversations they'd had been nice. "Sounds like you need some glasses, Saul." She teased a bit before her brows raised as he told her that he had basically done the equivalent of having someone take an entrance exam for them but in baseball form. "Interesting, is he playing under your name? Should I be expecting the announcer to call Saul Weissberg up at bat?" She teased as she snickered at the idea of a young man coming under the alias while Saul sat up with Rachel. Though her expression changed to a bit of shock at what sounded like a disaster waiting to happen. "Damn, this should be way more interesting. You put money on a charity game?! Wait...which ex-wife is this that did this?" She asked for clarification considering there was more than one and she was naturally curious. The lore of Saul Weissberg was forever intriguing to Rachel, which perhaps should be a bit concerning but she couldn't help it. Looking back at the field, she was a bit shocked when Saul asked her if she knew anything about baseball. "Really? I don't know why I thought of all sports baseball would be one you'd know. Well, I do, so don't you even worry. I'm your gal. I grew up on sports even though I never played them. Well I swam. But now I play softball!"
